ABOUT THE EVENT
The Intelligentsia Cup Series
Set to run annually in mid-July, the 10-stop Intelligentsia Cup Prairie State Cycling Series features pro and amateur races in and around the Chicagoland area. West Dundee kicks off the series with the West Dundee River Challenge.
The West Dundee River Challenge
West Dundee has hosted the Intelligentsia Cup Prairie State Cycling Series annually since 2016, featuring professional and amateur racers from all over the world. Known for the grueling uphill climb, the Leg Breaker, the West Dundee course provides a unique challenge for racers on opening day. In addition to hosting an entire day of thrilling bike races, the West Dundee River Challenge features food, entertainment, and family-friendly events.
The 0.9 mile criterium course starts at Washington and 4th Streets, looping its way through the historic Old Town North neighborhood, with cyclists reaching speeds up to 50 mph on the Geneva St. downhill. Racers must navigate a tight hairpin turn from Lincoln Ave. before starting the massive climb up Washington St.
The KidZone and Dundee Open-Air Market are located near the action at Grafelman Park, while the Restaurant and Entertainment Corridor is located down the hill along North 2nd & Washington Streets.
The Restaurant and Entertainment Corridor
