The Chicago Grit Racing Series
​Set to run annually in mid-July, the 10-stop Chicago Grit Racing Series features pro and amateur races in and around the Chicagoland area. West Dundee kicks off the series with the West Dundee River Challenge.

The West Dundee River Challenge
West Dundee has hosted the Chicago Grit Racing Series (formerly known as the Intelligentsia Cup) annually since 2016, featuring professional and amateur racers from all over the world. Known for the grueling uphill climb, the Leg Breaker, the West Dundee course provides a unique challenge for racers on opening day. In addition to hosting an entire day of thrilling bike races, the West Dundee River Challenge features food, entertainment, and family-friendly events.

Location
The 0.9 mile criterium course starts at Washington and 4th Streets, looping its way through the historic Old Town North neighborhood, with cyclists reaching speeds up to 50 mph on the Geneva St. downhill. Racers must navigate a tight hairpin turn from Lincoln Ave. before starting the massive climb up Washington St.
The KidZone and Dundee Open-Air Market are located near the action at Grafelman Park, while the Restaurant and Entertainment Corridor is located down the hill along North 2nd & Washington Streets.

The Restaurant and Entertainment Corridor
The Restaurant and Entertainment Corridor features local restaurants serving race day
menus and drinks, served race-side to catch all the cycling action at the hairpin turn and the start of the Leg Breaker. It's an exciting spot to watch the race!
The Music Stage features live music to enjoy while eating, drinking and dancing at the end of the racing day.

Family Bike Parade
The Family Bike Parade provides individuals and families an opportunity ride a portion of the course, either with or without costumes. A costume contest concludes the event, with prizes provided by local businesses. Sign-up is available at the Information Tent on the day of the race.

KidZone and Dundee Open-Air Market
The KidZone features fun activities for children of all ages, including inflatables such as the ever-popular Meltdown challenge and the Adrenaline Rush Supreme. Kid-friendly food is available in Grafelman Park with a greater variety of fare available in the Restaurant and Entertainment Corridor.
The Dundee Open-Air Market showcases all that our community has to offer, with local businesses featuring shopping, tastings, raffles and more.
